Gifts From the Previous Homeowner

Since I moved into my house just last July, I have never experienced a spring here. Apparently, the old owner of the house planted tons of perennials, and I have been discovering new ones every day! There are tons, but here are some of the highlights.

Update: Crested Dwarf Iris

Update: Spanish Bluebell (aka Wood Hycinths)

Spanish Bluebell

Update: This grew into one of my Asiatic Lilies

I know that this is a daylily - there are tons of these! They aren't my favorite flower, but I love how they bloom over and over again all through the summer!

Update: Asiatic Lily

Azaleas (thanks to my mom's knowledge -- she grew up in Alabama) of the "Mobile Pride" color (thanks to my mom's cousin's knowledge -- she lives in Mobile).

Close-up of Mobile's Pride Azalea. This is special to me because I was born in Mobile! I can't believe it happened to end up in my garden in my first home in West Virginia!

If anyone knows what these are, help!! I have no idea but would like to learn.

Did you notice the last picture of a crocus? Why is it just barely blooming in late April?? Because instead of planting the bulbs in September like a good gardener, I planted them in February... but at least they are still blooming!

Poppy with 6 leaves (hard to see, so I pointed them out with the arrows)

Snapdragons (the one in the foreground has 3 leaves... is that like finding a 4-leaf clover?)

Tomato with 3 leaves

Another 3-leaf tomato plant

Pansy; tiny, and hard to photograph!

Petunia; also very tiny and hard to photograph!

Short Update

I have lots of sprouts and lots of plants shooting up. This will be a short picture update of the garden. More updates (including a sprout-count update) will come later!
Petunia sprout - finally!

Tomatoes - doing really well!

Lavender - lots and lots of sprouts

Snapdragon - tons of these

My tall zinnias - many are up to 8 leaves!

Columbine

Poppies - doing pretty well; all are at the 4-leaf stage

Delphinium - Revived from the dead. I had given up hope on them... but then I noticed a sprout growing in one of the cells in the tray in the garbage a few days later! (This explains the discarded contact lens you may be able to see in the left of the picture). Now I have 5 sprouts that are doing well! (Sorry for the sideways picture!)

New Sprouts!

Tons of new sprouts today! It always puts me in a good mood finding a new little sprout (and especially finding many!).

Here are my new sprouts:
Jaune Flamme tomato (day 8)

Johnny-Jump-Up (day 7)

Lavender (day 22)

Nasturtium (day 22). A miracle! Hopefully these don't get eaten by Callie this time!

Here some pictures of my old sprouts:
Zinnia (about 5 weeks)

4-leaf poppy (almost 4 weeks)

Lupine (almost 4 weeks)

Yesterday I transplanted my lupine sprouts to different containers because of this...
Fungus!!

Just in case you didn't see it in the first picture...

Lupine roots

Germinated lupine seed that I discovered while repotting the lupines

I am so looking forward to getting all of these sprouts grown up and in my garden!
